Five Year Olds
Five is an incredible age. Children at this age have the curiosity and drive to learn and explore as they did when they were four, but they now have the added capabilities to focus and be still for longer amounts of time. The curriculum for five year olds is a synthesis of all the knowledge and learning they have gained during their time at Building Kidz. Writing words and eventually sentences becomes a very integral part of their development. Our five year olds write letters to each other. In the beginning of the year, children generally write one sentence and sign their name. By the end of the year, our children are writing a few sentences and some are writing questions to their peers. Our focus on math is also leveled up a significant notch from previous years. Our children count to 100, count by fives and tens, complete simple addition and subtraction, sequencing, and learn complex patterns. Five-year olds are very creative which is reflective in the art component of our curriculum. Having gained a solid foundation in learning the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, our five year olds will learn about more advanced colors like saffron, fuschia, and terracotta. Our children make these colors with tempera paints.
