Meet Our Team

Stephanie Harrington

Stephanie Harrington

School Director

My name is Stephanie Harrington and I am the Director at Building Kidz of Redwood City!

I found my passion for dance and teaching children while growing up in Santa Cruz County. In 2014, I started my career in Early Childhood Education working as a dance teacher for Building Kidz of Scotts Valley.  Soon, I realized working with young children gave me a sense of fulfillment so I decided to pursue my ECE degree while continuing my work with young children at the Building Kidz locations and growing my career.

Throughout my time at Building Kidz I have gotten the opportunity to grow into this role. In 2014, I began as the Production Manager for ‘Building Starz’, a division of Building Kidz. I have produced and directed shows for centers in and out of state. In 2016, I helped develop and operate  ‘Building Careerz’, another division within Building Kidz which gives an opportunity for teachers to get educated in the field. I have hired, trained, and managed teachers. In 2021, I graduated from the University of Arizona with a BA in Early Childhood Education and Management.

I love working with parents to ensure our team provides the best experience for our children. As a Director, it is important that I address all needs for our children while make learning fun and exciting.  I am committed to providing the highest quality preschool experience for our children within a stable, safe, and nurturing environment.

Please reach out or stop by anytime – I would love to meet you!

Elissa Calvin

Academic Director

My name is Elissa Calvin and I am thrilled to be a part of the Building Kidz team! Before working for Building Kidz, I worked for 18 years as an early childhood educator at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco. Most of my experience there was as a preschool teacher, and for three of the years I worked as a nature science resource teacher.

I grew up in Massachusetts where I spent most of my time riding and caring for horses. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Ithaca College in New York in English secondary education, and quickly realized that early childhood education was my true calling after moving to San Francisco. I received my Masters Degree in early childhood education in 2018, and my thesis was on how time spent in outdoor natural spaces helps children with their self-regulation.

Finding ways to help educators bring nature to children is one of my passions! I presented on integrating loose parts and natural materials in ECE classrooms at the 2019 Marin Child Care Council’s Striving for Excellence conference and The Children Learning in Nature Conference.

My first project at Building Kidz was to help update our infant toddler and preschool curriculums to reflect the latest trends in early childhood education. I also wrote the kindergarten curriculum for our schools.

As the Academic Director at Building Kidz of Redwood City, I work closely with Ms. Stephanie to ensure that all activities and projects happening in the infant, toddler, and preschool classrooms are inline with our progressive academic curriculum. I help train teachers to become familiar with the curriculum and how to implement it while also embracing their own creativity and passions. I am also responsible for creating an enticing and engaging outdoor learning environment for the children in our care.
I am looking forward to meeting you and your children!
