Preschool Program

Children between the ages of 2 and 6 develop physical coordination, formulate and combine ideas, are able to learn more complex games, and begin the journey of learning about themselves and each other. Being playful while learning is the best way to help children to remember and later apply concepts they have learned. Play and performing arts are stitched throughout our daily activities. Foreign language is introduced and expanded upon throughout our preschool curriculum. Our teachers provide individual attention to support every child’s unique needs.

Our preschool curriculum allows our children to thrive and introduces language, math, science, and social skills in a way that encourages learning at every child’s own pace. Our children strengthen their cognitive and social skills with fun memory games and team activities which combine creative expression with a tactile experience in a group setting.

Math and science skills are developed with hands-on experiences and supported by elements of the performing arts. Language experiences are introduced with performing arts integration to support accelerated literacy and language development.

Two Year Olds

Two year olds want to, and need to, explore their environment. We show our two year olds how to explore safely and get them excited to learn. Our twos’ curriculum is designed to facilitate the need to explore while introducing our children to the Building Kidz academic curriculum in a developmentally appropriate manner.

Three Year Olds

Our curriculum for three year olds is leveled up from the twos’ curriculum. Children review prior concepts before they begin to learn new concepts. Beyond the benefit of retention, this approach is also helpful for children who are attending Building Kidz for the first time as a three year old. Our three year olds review the alphabet, numbers 1 through 10, and basic colors and shapes. As the year progresses, our children learn about creating tertiary colors from primary and secondary ones and learn about different shapes. Three year olds are more verbal than two year olds and participate in discussions throughout the year. They can also handle more responsibility so we ensure they play a more active role in their development.

Four Year Olds

Four year olds are exuberant about life and learning. Above all, they are full of energy. Despite this seemingly endless reserve of energy, four-year olds are much more able to focus on one activity or concept than three year olds. For this reason, the curriculum for our four year olds is significantly leveled up. Four-year olds use their journals throughout the week for literacy and math activities. Our teachers guide our children on how to use one page at a time and how to fill out pages. Even though four year olds have more motor control and more interest in writing, it is still important for them to learn academic concepts in a “hands-on” style. Our curriculum involves sensory materials and manipulatives which allow a spectrum of basic to advanced development. The integration of music and dance with science and math truly comes to life here.

Five Year Olds

Five is an incredible age. Children at this age have the curiosity and drive to learn and explore as they did when they were four, but they now have the added capabilities to focus and be still for longer amounts of time. The curriculum for five year olds is a synthesis of all the knowledge and learning they have gained during their time at Building Kidz. Writing words and eventually sentences becomes a very integral part of their development. Our five year olds write letters to each other. In the beginning of the year, children generally write one sentence and sign their name. By the end of the year, our children are writing a few sentences and some are writing questions to their peers. Our focus on math is also leveled up a significant notch from previous years. Our children count to 100, count by fives and tens, complete simple addition and subtraction, sequencing, and learn complex patterns. Five-year olds are very creative which is reflective in the art component of our curriculum. Having gained a solid foundation in learning the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, our five year olds will learn about more advanced colors like saffron, fuschia, and terracotta. Our children make these colors with tempera paints.
